Summer Experience

KIT, Carl Benz School of Engineering (1 wk)  July 2024

  • Took a college level introduction to mechanical engineering course.

  • Took part in various experiments demonstrating principles of design.

  • Some classes included Introduction to Radio Engineering, Introduction to HVAC Systems, Introduction to Railway Systems and Engineering Solutions for Water Resources.



LaunchX Innovation Program First Cohort, UMICH Ann Arbor
(2 wks) July 2023

  • LaunchX Innovation Program is a 2 week accelerated entrepreneurship course combined with a problem solving project. Each team is matched with a company that they have to innovate and create a solution for.

  • Lead team 15 in this cohort to innovate solutions about the brain drain in the state of Michigan.

  • Was the only Turkish student who got accepted to the first cohort of the program.

  • The program was conducted on the campus of UMich Ann Arbor.



Kadir Has University, Istanbul Augmented Mechanics Course
(50 hrs/wk, 2wk/year) June 2022

  • Attended a college-level mechanics course given by MIT Emeritus Professor Nihat Berker and passed with distinction.

  • During the summer of my freshman year, I had to learn some calculus to make the most out of the course which was covering the AP Physics C Mechanics topics. 



Humboldt Institute German Language Summer Courses
(4-8 wk/year) Summers of 2018, 2019, 2022

  • Improved German level from A2 to B2 and gained insights on German culture.

Leadership

Robert College Student Council, President,
(10 hrs/wk, 40 wks/year) April 2024- Present                                                                              

  • Has been the Vice President of the Student Council since January 2024 and became the president in April 2024

  • Has been one of the four elected candidates to represent the class of 2025 at the student council since January 2023

  • President of the Sports Committee of the “Fine Arts Festival” organized annually at Robert College by the Student Council.

  • Is one of the two sustainability officers at the Student Council, with this role. Is responsible for the relationship established with the school’s Strategic Planning Team that is concerned with sustainability.



Destination Imagination- Technical Challenge, Team Leader,
(6 hrs/wk, 20 wks/ year) 2021-2023

  • DI is a competition in which the students are required to design a solution to a problem that has been given beforehand. The application and innovation of the solutions to the presented challenge are marked in the competition.

  • The team that I lead won the Turkey Championship and got invited to the DI Global Finals in the US for two years in a row.



Robert College Model Airplane Club,  President,
(2 hrs/wk, 35 wks/ year) September 2022 - Present

  • Aims to teach the members the basic aerospace engineering principles, electronics and mechanics. Now that the club members have some knowledge on model airplanes, in the following years the club will participate in a competition at the Turkish technology festival “Teknofest”.

  • Has been in the club since September 2021 and has been the co-president since September 2022.



Robert College Strategic Planning Team 6, “Green Team”, SC Rep.
(2 hrs/wk, 5wks/year) Feb. 2023- Feb. 2024

  • Is responsible for being the bridge between the team and the student community and for representing the student body. 

  • Gives suggestions to the team at adhering to the highest sustainability standards without compromising student well-being.

Destination Imagination Technical Challenge, First Place at DAT                       2022-2023

  • DI is a competition in which the students are required to design a solution to a problem that has been given beforehand. The application and innovation of the solutions to the presented challenge are marked in the competition.

  • First Place at the Turkish affiliate tournament of Destination Imagination Technical challenge two consecutive years.

  • Worked on the electronics and mechanics of our project, as well as leading the team.

Entrepreneurship

AI Ed-tech Start-up (BLang), Co-founder,
(10 hrs/wk, 52 wks/year) May 2023- Present

  • Aims to utilize artificial intelligence to create a more natural and rapid language learning experience compared to the most language learning websites in the market.

  • Works at the linguistics, management and finance sides of the project, where both the learning experience and the profit margins are of concern.

  • The company, officially established 2024 April, got 10,000 dollar investment. 

  • Connected with many VC’s and startup founders, asking for advice.

  • The website can be accessed at https://blang.ai/ 


FAF, Head Organizer,
(6 hrs/wk, 26 wks/year) 2023- 2024

  • As the president of the student council, led the oldest and biggest High-school festival in Turkey.

  • Raised over 1.6 million Turkish Liras in sponsorships to make the event possible.

  • Conducted the biggest FAF ever in terms of both the budget and the area covered.

Internship

DESA, the leading Turkish leather garment firm

  • Intern at various departments, most summers for at least 2-3 weeks since 2015.

  • Worked in the Italian factory and the Turkish factories in various parts of the production line.

  • Worked in almost every department of the company including wallet production, bag production, design and ecommerce.


Samsonite, leading global luggage firm
(2wks) Summer 2023

  • Intern at Europe HQ in Belgium.

  • Spent 2 weeks in the tooling department of the luggage factory, building components for heavy production machinery during the summer of 2023.

  • Worked under the supervision of a Dutch-speaking overseer which was quite a challenge at some instances.


EVLI Fund, second biggest investment fund in Finland
(2wks)  Summer 2024

  • Worked at the fund for two weeks, analyzing stocks that have doubled in the past year.

  • Had meetings with the managers , two UPenn graduates, of the funds every two days, updating them on my progress.

Extracurriculars


Sports:

  • Bodybuilding/weightlifting (5 hrs/wk, 52 wks/year) 2021- Present

    • Started with simple calisthenics in 2021 and slowly experimented with different kinds of strength training including both powerlifting and weightlifting styles of training.

  • Running (1 hr/wk, 52 wks/year) 2020- Present

    • Started running in 2020 and got better at it by training in every opportunity. Now able to run half marathons.

  • Scuba Diving (10 hrs/wk, 2 wks/year) 2014-Present

    •  Has been diving for the last 10 years and has a PADI Advanced Open Water certificate with over 55 dives.

  • Yoga (1hr/wk, 52wks/year)

    •  Has been working on various yoga poses to improve flexibility and mobility for the last year to ameliorate other athletic skills.

Music:

  • Flute: Plays the flute since 5th grade. Performed at various school events since middle school.

  • Guitar: Just started playing guitar this year and already at ABRSM Grade 2.

  • Vocals:  Has been working on his vocal skills for the past year and performs at small events at school with his band.

  • Member of one of the most respected clubs of Robert College.

  • During the weekly meetings, the club members discuss current events and how they influence the stock market and the economy in general.

  • Organizes events with highly renowned speakers from the world of business.

Social Service


Financial Literacy Peer Advising Project,

Working together with a foundation that aims to increase financial literacy to create a peer to peer teaching program that aims to create a system where people who get through the program get qualified to advance to becoming an advisor as well.


English Teaching CIP at RC Campus ,

  • Project was conducted at RC campus, aiming to teach English to primary and middle schoolers coming from underprivileged areas.

  • The project was successful, as many students were able to build upon their English skills.

  • I was able to observe how foreign language acquisition occurs among younger groups.


SWOE (Seen With Other Eyes),

  • Aims to help visually impaired peers to learn mathematical concepts by creating tactile learning materials.

  • Has been involved with the project during the pandemic and thus created and recorded audio that aims to teach mathematical concepts.
